Project Readiness Assessment

Most disappointing content projects were not failed by the supplier. They were failed before the supplier started, because the brief was not ready. This assessment finds the gaps while they are still cheap to fix.

Objectives We can state what a learner will be able to do differently after the programme, in behavioural terms. We know why this matters now, and what happens if we do nothing. We have a named executive sponsor who will defend the scope when it is challenged.

Audience We know the size, role profile, prior knowledge and location of the audience. We know where learners will actually be when they study, and on which devices. We know the language mix of the audience, not just the organisation.

Source material We have the policy, procedure or subject content that the learning must be based on. We know who owns that content internally and who can approve changes to it. We have reviewed the source material and believe it is accurate and current enough to build from.

Scope and constraints We know approximately how many modules or minutes we need, and we can say why. We know our fixed constraints: deadline, budget range, platform, regulatory requirements. We know what is out of scope, even if only approximately.

Stakeholders and decisions We know who will review and approve content, and how long they need to do it. We have agreed how many review rounds are acceptable and what happens beyond that. We have an internal owner with the authority to make decisions within days, not weeks.

Evaluation and measurement We know how we will judge whether the programme worked, beyond completion rates. We know who will act on the results once we have them. We have thought about what happens to the content after launch, including updates.
